How to Create a User Code



An Alarm.com user code is a secure and convenient way to grant family members and trusted visitors access to your home while you are away.


It is a four or six-digit code that unlocks your door and deactivates the alarm. Here's a quick video showing how to configure a user code in the Alarm.com app. Instructions for using the web dashboard can be found further down.


Why create user codes?

With user codes, visitors can enter without needing access to your Alarm.com account or your help. For added security, you can limit the code to specific days/times and delete it whenever needed. Plus, receive alerts whenever the code is used to keep track of who comes and goes.


To set up:


1. Log in to Alarm.com app

2. Go to Users (found by tapping Menu in top left and scrolling down)

3. Tap + to add a user

4. Enter user's name and tap Create

5. Create or generate a code for the user in Access Code

6.  Enable/disable access for the user's code on the devices (e.g. panel, locks)

7. Tap Save (allow a few minutes for the code to be active at the panel)

8. Add contact information (mobile number and/or email) by tapping + Add Contact.

Using your web dashboard instead?

Here’s how to set up an Alarm.com user code from your PC or laptop.


To add a user in the Alarm.com web dashboard:


1. Log in to the web dashboard

2. Go to Users by clicking Users

3. Click Add New User

4. Enter the user's first and last name, then click Create

5. Create or generate a code for the user in the Access Code field

6. Enable access for the user's code on desired devices (e.g. panel, locks)

7. Click Save (allow a few minutes for the code to be active at the panel)

8. Add contact information (mobile number and/or email) by clicking + Add Contact.

Things to know:

You can't change a user code if your security system is turned on. Before you attempt to edit a user code, make sure the system is unarmed.


You should also give your security panel a few minutes to activate a new user code. Contact your service provider if the new user code does not work at the panel or if you have any further questions.
